In the case of acrylic nails there are primarily four types of shapes that are commonly used :

In order to get the nail extension done one has to first get a proper manicure. There after the nail technician dries the fingers and base nail thoroughly and then applies nail prep in a scrubbing-motion in order to remove the moisture and oil from the natural nail base. Then the technician makes a choice of the tip that would fit best on the natural base. Then the primer is applied. It is after this primer is dried that the acrylic nail is fixed. Thereafter the technician shapes and blends the acrylic extension to make it look natural.
